SC to be back on track from today after 44 days summer vacation; several important judgments to be pronounced

New Delhi, July 2: The Supreme Court will be back on track today after its 44-day summer vacation. After reopening it is going to open dairies of several important judgments including a decision in the Aadhaar case.


 

The top court will resume hearing appeals against an eight-year-old verdict of the Allahabad High Court on the Ayodhya dispute and those challenging the practice of polygamy among Muslims.

It is also expected to deliver its verdict on a batch of pleas on who enjoyed supremacy in administering the national capital- the Lieutenant Governor or the Delhi government.

The apex court has a lengthy list of matters for today with cause list running into hundreds of pages. A verdict is likely on a plea challenging the appointment of incumbent Chief Vigilance Commissioner K V Chaudhary and Vigilance Commissioner T M Bhasin.

Matters pertaining to air pollution in Delhi-NCR, Assam National Register of Citizens, Vaishno Devi - rehabilitation of mule owners and Manipur encounter killings, among others, are likely to come up for hearing.

Recently Supreme Court had released a roster which allocates the cases to the judges which will come into effect from today.

The roster notifies that the bench headed Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra will hear all public interest litigations, besides pleas relating to social justice, elections, habeas corpus and contempt of court.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is the senior-most judge after the chief justice following the retirement of Justice Chelameswar on July 22, will deal with labor laws, indirect taxes, personal law, and company law cases.
