Washington, July 20: Taking back everyone by surprise, the United States President Donald Trump has shared his thought on inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to Washington this autumn. The invite came as a major blow and astonishment after the summit that led to an uproar in the United States over Trump's failure to publicly confront Putin for Moscow's meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a Twitter post that Trump had directed national security adviser John Bolton to issue the invitation. The coveted invitation to Washington was sure to be seen as a victory by Putin, whose last official visit to the United States was in July 2007.

Both Trump and Putin earlier on Thursday praised their first meeting as a success and blamed forces in the United States for trying to belittle its achievements. Despite the week's uproar, Trump also said he was looking forward to his second meeting with the Russian leader.

The summit that took place in Helsinki, four days ago, created an uproar by the people in both the countries, with United States creating havoc over Donald Trump being unable to confront on the U.S. 2016 elections and also in Russia to visit the US President after all the drama.

On the summit, it was viewed that both the state leaders expressed a desire to cooperate on global challenges, after talks on an array of issues from Syria, Ukraine and China to trade tariffs and the size of their nuclear arsenals. Standing alongside Putin at a joint news conference, Trump said he had "spent a great deal of time talking about" election meddling, without going into detail or explicitly condemning any interference after 12 Russian agents were indicted in the United States.
