Kumaraswamy to visit Tamil Nadu; pitches for a new dam in Cauvery region

Bengaluru, July 23: In order to resolve the long pending issue of Cauvery water dispute, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will reach out to political parties and farmer groups of Tamil Nadu.

As reported by Economic Times, Karnataka government is planning to build a dam across the Cauvery for hassle-free water sharing and management. Karnataka government had already released more than 85 thousand million cubic feet (tmcf) of water from the Kabini dam to Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Minister will seek the support of political parties and farmer outfits for the proposed dam in order to fine-tune the irrigation ecosystem.

According to Kumaraswamy, this move of Karnataka government would prevent wasteful into the sea.

Earlier, Cauvery Water Management Authority, the apex decision making the body in the inter-state water sharing dispute had directed Karnataka government to release 31.24 TMC water to Tamil Nadu.
