Giving child health top priority, Andhra Pradesh launches “Nutri-Gardens” in schools and colleges

Hyderabad, July 24: Disseminating the waves of technological benefits and swaying the state completely digital, the state of Andhra Pradesh in its new initiative has enabled Nutri-gardens for children in schools and colleges.

In a bid to talk on the challenge of malnutrition among the school children and to make better use of the vacant space on the premises of the government schools, the district administration has launched ‘Nutri-Garden’ program in 527 schools.

In order to enable this project the officials of the forest, horticulture, fisheries, sericulture, housing, school education, animal husbandry, and SERP departments informed CM Chandrababu Naidu about the works taken up under NREGA. The Chief Minister has also asked the Animal Husbandry department officials to implement the Gokulam scheme efficiently by coordinating with Dwakra groups. He also asked them to make sure that the Gopala Mitra services are implemented in all villages.

Apart from this, the officials have been directed to conduct a week-long special drive to clean stagnant rainwater on roads. The officials have also been ordered to increase students' participation in the Swachh Andra Pradesh program and make sure that school and college premises are cleaned every Saturday.
The Chief Minister asked officials to ensure that school children across AP should take part in the Vanam Manam program and implement it in their schools. The officials from the sericulture department informed that the department has developed a mulberry culture in 3,801 acres of land. The Chief Minister asked them to develop 5 sericulture clusters in the Rayalaseema region.

He asked officials of the fisheries department to take measures to prevent pollution. He also expressed happiness over the news that tribals in Rampachodavaram agency region have taken up development of fisheries in the farm ponds.
The officials from the forest department informed the Chief Minister that they have taken up 42,874 works at a cost of Rs. 27.94 Cr. CM asked the officials to develop forest cover and avenue plantation. He also asked the officials from the horticulture department to set a target of developing horticulture on a stretch of 1 Cr acres by the year 2029. Ranjit Basha, Commissioner, Rural Development said that 20,000 Km of cement roads have been laid in villages in the State.
