New Delhi, July 24: Days after joining hands with Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, veteran journalist and former BJP leader Chandan Mitra finally opened up about his surprising move of joining Trinamool Congress.

In an interview with NDTV, heaping praises on Mamata Banerjee’s leadership in the state, Mitra said that Trinamool would be a great platform to serve the people of West Bengal.

A two time Rajya Sabha Member, Mitra is the editor of Delhi based media outlet.

A One-time hard critic of the Trinamool and Mamata Banerjee, last week, the former BJP leader joined Trinamool in presence of Mamata Banerjee.

Incidentally, BJP is working hard to make inroads into Mamata’s stronghold. BJP has two Lok Sabha members from Bengal and both are serving as Union Minister.

In 2016, BJP nominated veteran actress Roopa Ganguly to Rajya Sabha.

When asked about the alleged strained relation with the apex leadership of BJP, Chandan Mitra refuted the reports by saying that he was not annoyed with BJP.

“BJP has given me a lot. They have made me a Rajya Sabha member twice,” said Mitra.

He admitted that existing state unit of BJP would not be able to take on established Mamata Banerjee. In 2014, Mitra had contested election from Hooghly segment.
