Washington, July 24: Lashkar e Tayyiba terrorist and 26/11 Mumbai attack conspirator Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley, who jailed in the US over his prime role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is fighting for his life after being attacked in prison, say media reports but the US authorities are saying to confirm.
As per some media reports, Headley was attacked on 8 July by two other inmates. The reports said he suffered serious injuries and was rushed to North Evanston hospital, where he was admitted to the critical care unit.
Headley has been sentenced to 35 years in prison by a US court for the 2008 terrorist attack on Mumbai that killed more than 160 people. Headley is said to be in the ICU after being attacked by other prisoners at a detention centre, allegedly on July 8.
The Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago said in a brief email response to PTI, "We are not able to locate information about this individual."
Headley recced various Indian cities before the 26/11 attacks - was arrested in 2009. Headley conducted recce of the places in Mumbai which were attacked by 10 LeT terrorists on November 26, 2008, also revealed that the outfit had initially planned to attack a conference of Indian Indian defence scientists in Taj Mahal Hotel and also disclosed that he had also conducted a recce of the famous Siddhivinayak Temple and Naval air station on directions of LeT commanders.
He had testified before a court in Mumbai through video conferencing from his prison in the US during the trial of Mumbai attacks mastermind Abu Jundal.
Headley’s statement that Ishrat Jahan who was killed in an encounter was a Lashkar-e-Taiba fidayeen and was recruited by top Lashkar commander Muzammil who was in charge of LeT's operations in India till 2007, uphold the Indian security forces especially the Intelligence Bureau and the Gujarat Police who were haunted by the Congress Party for years.
