Disseminating friendship aura on African land, PM Modi strengthen ties with Rwanda on various field

Rwanda, July 24: Becoming the first Prime Minister to set his foot in the African state, PM Modi enlightened the streets of Rwanda, as he was personally received by Rwandan President Paul Kagame. On his arrival in the nation, PM Modi announced that India will soon open its High Commission in Rwanda for the Indian Community. Apart from this, the two countries have joined hands in various sectors strengthening their relation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded with a ceremonial welcome at the Kigali Airport in Rwanda. Following the ceremonial welcome, PM Modi and Rwanda President Paul Kagame took forward the one-on-one meeting with delegation level talks. Enhancing ties and relationship with the close strategic partnership, India decided to extend USD 200 million lines of credit to Rwanda as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with President Paul Kagame after his arrival in Rwanda.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with President Paul Kagame and discussed measures to boost the bilateral strategic ties by strengthening cooperation in trade and agriculture sectors. India and Rwanda signed eight agreements, including two agreements to extend USD 200 million lines of credit to Rwanda.

The eight agreements included Amendment on the MoU on Cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Animal Resource, Agreement on Cooperation Defence on Capacity Building, Defence, Industry, Science and Technology, MoU on Cultural Exchange Program for the year 2018-22, MoU on Agricultural Research and Education, MoU on Collaboration in the Areas of Leather and Allied Sectors, two agreements for the credit line of 200 million dollars for the three agricultural project and for Kigali Special Economic Zone. Besides, India also decided to open its High Commission in Rwanda.

 

Thanking PM Modi for his interest in visiting the Genocide Memorial and showing a keen interest in the national social protection scheme, "Girinka" (one cow per family), Rwandan President said that African Continental Free Trade Area will provide a better opportunity for trade and investment between the two countries.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with the Indian community in Rwanda. Speaking to the Indian diaspora, Prime Minister praised them for their contribution in the development of Rwanda and for their community service. He said that the Indian diaspora is making a mark all over the world. PM said that govt has taken various reform measures, which is leading to a transparent system in India.

 

Prime Minister also said that India is among the fastest growing economy in the world. PM also invited members of the Indian community to visit Kashi on the occasion of Pravasi Bharati Divas in India.

 

On Tuesday, Prime Minister will visit Rweru model village for gifting of 200 cows as a contribution from India to the 'Girinka' scheme of Rwanda. He will also visit the Genocide Memorial.
