Hardik Patel imprisoned for two years for vandalizing BJP legislator’s office during 2015 violent Patidar protests

Gandhinagar, July 25: So-called Patidar leader and a violent agitators’ leader Hardik Patel is all set to face the imprisonment for two years and a fine of Rs 50,000 in connection with 2015 riot case.

 

Notably, a court in Gujarat on Wednesday awarded two years of imprisonment to Hardik Patel in connection with 2015 riot case which is related to vandalizing BJP legislator Rushikesh Patel’s office in Visnagar during the 2015 violent Patidar protests. A fine of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on the Patidar agitation leader.

The verdict was pronounced by the Visnagar Court holding Hardik Patel and two of his aides guilty. Besides Hardik, SPG President Lalji Patel and AK Patel were held guilty by the court. However, as soon as the Visnagar Court delivered its verdict, Hardik’s lawyer filed a bail plea. As Hardik has been awarded a jail term less than 3 years, he is allowed to file a bail plea.

While Hardik Patel has maintained that the actions against him are part of political vendetta. Hardik Patel besides rioting is also facing sedition charges for urging his followers to kill policemen instead of committing suicide. Patel formed the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) which claim itself as an apolitical organization that aims to get Patidars included in the OBC quota.
