Making an announced to shut down its camp office in Biratnagar of Morang district, the Indian embassy in Kathmandu confirmed that the camp will close with effect from August 1.

The camp office in Biratnagar was opened in 2008 to deal with the situation arising out of devastating Koshi floods. The purpose of this Camp Office has been fulfilled and Government of India had decided to wind up the Camp Office and re-locate the personnel. The decision was conveyed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his Nepalese counterpart K.P.Sharma Oli during his visit to Nepal in May this year.

It was in 2008, Nepal allowed India to set up a temporary field office to issue passes for vehicles to tier Indian roads in the nearby regions after a 17 km stretch of the East-West highway was damaged due to Koshi floods.

The office initially was set up in Sunsari. It was later shifted to Biratnagar. Currently, it is located at Malaya Road on the Koshi Highway.
