Ranchi, July 25: Jharkhand has taken a unique initiative to increase its crop yield, sending its farmers to abroad where they will learn modern agricultural techniques. CM Raghubar Das govt will be sending a team of farmers to Israel this August.

The CM said Israel is world famous for providing better agricultural output in using least water resources. He said that more than agricultural specialists and scientists, farmers visit is important. He said that when this farmer comes back, he will be our master trainer who will tell about his experience to other farmers of his district.

Initially, this visit was decided from July 23 but due to delay in Israel Visa the date has been postponed to August 5 and the visit will be of six days. One farmer from each district will be included in the team and the team will be accompanied by officials.

The CM said that these farmers will be given special information about drip and sprinkler irrigation system and will also see its use in Israel’s farms. The team of 24 farmers will be led by the Agriculture Ministry.

Israel’s agriculture is the success story of a long, hard struggle against adverse land and climate conditions. Over half of Israel’s saline soil is arid or semi-arid (only 20% is arable) and Israel’s natural water supplies are below the UN definition of water poverty. Even so, since Israel’s establishment in 1948, the country has almost tripled the territory used for farming, and production has multiplied 16 times. Today, Israel manages to produce 95% of its own food requirements.
