Anti-terrorism operation in progress: Security forces kill one terrorist in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, July 27: Security forces on Thursday eliminated one unknown terrorist after a fierce encounter that took place in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation has been called off after the body of slain terrorist along with arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot.

 

Security forces including the joint team of Army, CRPF and State Police launched the search operation in Check Sodul village in Handwara area following information about the presence of terrorists. The search operation turned into a fierce gun battle when the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security forces. In retaliation, one unknown terrorist was killed.

In a tweet, Kashmir zone police said, “Exchange of fire between Terrorists & Security forces at Handwara. Security forces on job. Details will follow.”


On the other side, at least four paramilitary jawans were injured after a group terrorist lobbed grenade on CRPF deployment in Bijbehara tehsil of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In another tweet, Kashmir zone police said, “Grenade incident at Goriwan in Bijbehara. Area under cordon. Four CRPF personnel injured. All stated to be stable.”


This comes a day after two terrorists belonged to Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit were eliminated in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag. According to the official sources, so far over 110 terrorists have been eliminated in Jammu and Kashmir. As many as 206 terrorists were killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017 of which 85 were residents of the valley.
