Standing strong with economic and development cooperation, PM Modi asserts India and Africa relations to reach great heights

Johannesburg, July 27: Winding up the BRICS Summit 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the countries in the BRIC alliance have sought to work together and bring out favorable changes benefiting the citizens and the country for future developments.

Remarking the BRICS Outreach Session, PM Modi spoke about India’s historic and deep links with Africa. He said that the Government of India accorded the highest priority towards maintaining peace and ensuring development in Africa. “Economic and development cooperation between India and Africa have touched new heights”, he added.

The 10th BRICS Summit, themed “BRICS in Africa” aims to foster inclusive growth, shared prosperity and the fourth industrial revolution. Discussing the challenges that could occur in this framework because of the fourth industrial revolution, the Prime Minister pitched that the countries should work towards implementing ways for youth to have a stabilized future.

PM Modi asserted that the Digital Revolution is bringing new opportunities for everyone. It is essential to look at Artificial Intelligence and big data analytics closely. PM Modi further said that India will always welcome various efforts for closer economic integration among the African nations. Both the countries have strong historic relation and celebrating the 25th jubilee of the diplomatic relations will bring both the nations more closely.

 

Honored by the Parliament of Uganda on inviting him to commence the session, PM Modi informed that he had outlined ten principles for India's ties with Africa. India has kept their wide doors open for the students of South Africa. Several African students come to India to study and also receive scholarships is what India wishes to see in the coming future.

 

Free Trade and Commerce has pulled out millions of people from poverty in the last three decades. Sharing the benefits of globalization and development to people was a key part of this process. And Global South was an equal partner in this effort. Since the financial crisis of 2008, the fundamental aspect of globalization has been the crux of protectionism.

 

 

The coming together of so many African leaders during this programme is a wonderful thing. India's ties with Africa are time-tested. The Government of India has deepened engagement with Africa. India has been contributing to its development with its partner countries. By sharing our (BRICS countries) development experiences under South-South Cooperation, all possible cooperation by technical cooperation, training, and capacity building in other developing countries has been ought to be an important part of our foreign policy.

 

At the same time, India and other countries have been together providing financial assistance in the areas of infrastructure, power, agriculture, education, health, information technology, according to the needs and priorities of the participating countries. South-South Cooperation has been a major base in India's development journey. Sharing your development experience with developing countries has always been a priority for India, and will also be in the future.
