#DataProtection: Ravi Shankar Prasad gets report from Justice BN Srikrishna committee

New Delhi, July 28: Justice BN Srikrishna Committee submitted its report to Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday. The Committee was constituted on 31st July last year to deliberate on a data protection framework.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said, the government will go through the report which has also a draft Data Protection Bill. He said India's data protection law should be a blend of security, safety, privacy and innovation and a model for the whole world.

Prasad said the Centre will take stakeholder comments along with taking cabinet approval before finalizing the legislation. He said, being a very monumental law, the government will like to have the widest parliamentary consultation possible.

Justice Srikrishna said the draft bill has been prepared through an open process where the members of the committee consulted all stakeholders. He said people can send their suggestions after reading the report.

Justice Srikrishna said efforts should be made to protect privacy as it is an intrinsic part of the right to life and personal liberty.

In his report, the Committee has stressed on a regulatory framework for the operation of Aadhaar.

The Bill has been uploaded on the IT Ministry’s website for comments.
