Bonding strong over years: Bhutan Prime Minister embarks on a three day visit to India

New Delhi, July 3: India has demographically extended its support to all its neighboring countries and also other countries on bilateral context. In a new move to strengthen its ties with India, Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay will embark a three-day visit to India.

The Bhutan Prime Minister will be paying an official visit to India, from 5-7 July 2018, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India and Bhutan have shared quite good bilateral relations with each other.

During the visit, Prime Minister of Bhutan will meet the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and hold talks with the Prime Minister of India. The External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and other ministries have also sought to meet the Prime Minister of Bhutan.

 

India and Bhutan enjoy unique ties of friendship and cooperation, which are characterized by utmost trust and mutual understanding. This year both countries are commemorating the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations.
The upcoming visit of Prime Minister Tobgay, during the Golden Jubilee year, will provide an opportunity to both the sides to hold discussions on issues of mutual interest, and advance the classic ties of friendship for the benefit of the two peoples.

As a country, India has a special and exemplary relationship of friendship and cooperation and the mutual respect that it shares with Bhutan. India and Bhutan share a unique relationship with New Delhi being a leading development aid partner for the Himalayan kingdom. There are a number of institutional mechanisms between India and Bhutan in areas such as security, border management, trade, transit, economic, hydro-power, development cooperation and water resources.

India has set up three hydroelectric projects (HEPs) in Bhutan totaling 1,416 MW, which is operational and exporting surplus power to India. About three-fourths of the power generated is exported and the rest is used for domestic consumption.

Thus the relationship between the two countries ought to remain strong as a rock and strengthen the bond of diplomatic relationship.
