Imphal proposes various programs instigating young minds to protect environment

Imphal, July 4: Instilling young minds to get accustomed to nature and love and work for the environment, the Imphal state forest department has slated many initiatives for the students. The state forest department is organizing several programmes under National Green Corps (NGC) to instigate the love of nature among the youth.

The need to educate the masses about preventing the environment has become an important aspect and therefore this initiative by the Manipur government is a welcoming move. The National Green Corps is a major initiative of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for creating environmental awareness. The Union Ministry, the State Government agencies along with NGOs are working in the field of Environmental Education.

The National Green Corps programme is covering 4,100 schools in 16 districts along with 100 colleges in Manipur. The Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts are the chairperson of the District Implementing and Monitoring Committee.

The programme is operated through Eco-clubs set up in schools registered as members of the National Green Corps. It exposes students to in-depth field experiences and provides opportunities to convert their ideas into creative action. The aim and objective of the programme is spreading environmental awareness among the students of the state.
