New Delhi, July 4: Applauding WhatsApp’s new security feature in curtailing alleged disinformation and provocative content, Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shakar Prasad said that new intervention would tone down the problem of disinformation and provocative messages.
Earlier, the central government had issued a notice to social media giant over"irresponsible and explosive messages". The government asked the messaging platform to take effective steps in this regard.
Sharing the details of response received from WhatsApp, Prasad informed that, a new setting has been introduced by WhatsApp where a group admin can decide who can send messages. He stated that the digital platform would launch a special feature to curb malicious content.
The Telecom Minister urged social media platforms like WhatsApp, Twitter, and Facebook to become accountable, responsible and vigilant towards sensitive issues.
