Siddaramaiah defends fuel tariff hike by Karnataka government

Bengaluru, July 5: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today defended the move of fuel price hike by Karnataka government.

Kumaraswamy led JD(S)-Congress government today tabled the maiden budget. The Chief Minister also announced the much-anticipated decision of farm loan waiver.

Karnataka government has decided to clear all defaulted crop loans of farmers up to 31 Dec 2017 in the first stage.

Citing the reason of resource mobilization, the Badami lawmaker observed that small increase in sales tax on diesel and petrol will not be a burden on citizens.

On the other hand, the state government increased the rate of tax on petrol from the present 30% to 32% and diesel from 19% to 21%.
