Owing tribute to “Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee” on his birth Anniversary; a man who envisioned for a bright futuristic India

New Delhi, July 6: Standing out as a strong pillar of positive nationalism, Bharatiya Janata Party emerged with a mindset of a strong, robust and an integrated party. Owing all the credits to one man standing strong against all odds; India owes a great tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his birth anniversary for envisioning a country of development and progress.

 

Recalling the efforts taken by Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and former Parliamentarian on his birth anniversary. In a tweet shared by the Prime Minister said, Dr. Mookerjee is remembered as a fine educationist, a wonderful administrator and a stalwart who fought for India's freedom as well as unity.

The Prime Minister also shared a picture of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar saying that both were Ministerial colleagues and had a futuristic vision for India's growth.

 

Apart from being a political activist, Dr. Mookerjee was also a barrister and academician. He served as Minister for Industry and Supply in the first Cabinet post Independence. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 which was re-formed as the Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP in 1980.

 

The man of vision Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, founder President of Bharatiya Jan Sangh was born in Calcutta on July 06, 1901. Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee born on July 6, 1901, belonged to an illustrious family of Bengal. His father Sir Ashutosh Mookherjee was Vice-Chancellor of the Kolkata University and widely known in the state of Bengal. Dr. Syama graduated from Kolkata University and joined Lincoln’s Inn in London to become Barrister. At the age of 33, he became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of Kolkata University and held the office till 1938.

During his tenure, he introduced a number of constructive reforms and was active in Asiatic Society of Calcutta as well as was a member of the Court and the Council of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and Chairman of the Inter-University of Board.

 

The Jan Sangh contested the first general elections under his leadership and won three seats. But his with the ability to take along the smaller and regional parties in the parliament Dr. Mookerjee could become the leader of united opposition in the parliament and eventually the only leader whom even Prime Minister Nehru could not face.

He had formed National Democratic Party within the Parliament which comprised 32 members of Lok Sabha and 10 of Members of Rajya Sabha, which however was not recognized by the speaker as an opposition party. Probably, that was the beginning of present-day National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Apart from the Prime Minister, Union Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his humble tribute to Dr. Syama Mukherjee owing homage to the great educationalist who fought fearlessly for India’s unity and integrity.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also owed a respected tribute to the founder of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
