London, July 6: Beginning on the positive note, as many as four Indians including Rohan Bopanna, Divij Sharan, Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan swiftly advanced to the second round of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, the third Grand Slam of the season, in London.

India’s Divij Sharan and his New Zealand partner Artem Sitak defeated Radu Albot and Malek Jaziri by 7-6(4) 6-7(8) 6-3 6-2 in a match that lasted over two and half hours and booked a second-round berth. Sharan and Sitak remained solid on their service games as they faced only one break point, which they saved. They broke their opponents thrice in the contest and registered a victory.

Meanwhile, Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his French partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin registered a commanding victory over the Aussie team of John Millman and Alex De Minaur by 6-2, 6-2, 6-4. The pair of Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan got the better of New Zealand's Marcus Daniell and Dutch Wesley Koolhof, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Unfortunately, the Indo-American team of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Austin Krajicek bowed out of the tournament while Purav Raja and his French partner Fabrice Martin had, earlier, made an exit. On the other side, both the World number ones Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep progressed to the third round, along with Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin del Potro and Kei Nishikori
