Srinagar, July 6: Peace and stability could be brought to the state through an honest, effective and efficient administration. This was said by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday while reviewing the security situation and developmental issues in the State at a high-level meeting in Srinagar with State Governor NN Vohra, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and other top security officials.

He further reiterated the Government’s commitment to take all possible measures that would bring accountability, transparency and good governance in the system. “With a renewed focus on Good Governance and development, the Centre is looking forward to kindle new aspirations and hopes amongst the people of the State,” he added.

Rajnath Singh also stated that development and Good Governance had remained elusive for the common people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The solution to problems lies in the empowerment of the people and strengthening the institutions of local self-governance,” he added.

The Home Minister noted that the dream of a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir would be realized when there is peace and normalcy in the state. “It is the Government’s firm resolve to bring peace, stability and prosperity through an honest, effective and efficient administration for the problems facing the state,” he concluded.

Interestingly, Rajnath Singh reached Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday for a two-day visit to review the security situation in the valley that concluded yesterday. However, he could not visit the Amarnath Cave Shrine due to inclement weather.

Earlier, on June 7, Rajnath Singh visited Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan when the central government had announced a unilateral cessation of anti-terrorist operations. The ceasefire was not extended beyond Ramzan.

Jammu and Kashmir was placed under governor's rule on June 20 after the BJP withdrew support to its alliance partner PDP over its soft approach towards terrorism.
