Adrenalin rush gone wrong: Four feared drowned in Juhu Beach, search operation underway

Mumbai, July 6: In a saddening incident last night, four people drowned off the Juhu beach. The police informed that the group of five had ventured into the sea for a swim last evening.

The officials have initiated a search operation for the group. Lifeguards deployed at the beach rescued one man, identified as Wasim Khan, who was with the group. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zonal IX) Paramjit Singh Dahiya said that the sea was rough and there was high tide when they ventured into the sea for a swim at around 5.30 pm.

One of them, Wasim Khan (22), has been rescued, while the search for the other four persons was underway, he said, adding that helicopters had also been deployed as part of the efforts.

As per a communication from the Navy, SeaKing 42C helicopters were deployed for the search operation. The Navy statement added that the Coast Guard would join the search operation from tomorrow morning. “The sea condition is very challenging for diving ops due to strong currents and waves. The divers are using grapnels to avoid being swept away by strong currents.”

Those feared drowned have been identified as Fardeen Saudagar (17), Sohail Khan (17), Faisal Sheikh (17) and Nazeer Gazi (22), police said.

The five were residents of DN Nagar area in suburban Andheri, police said.

Similar incidents have taken place in the past. In spite of the advisory given by the MeT department and the government, there have been many instances that have come forward hovering the life of people.
