New Delhi, July 6: A strong golden jubilee camaraderie envisioning for a bright future of two countries, India and Bhutan come together to strengthen the base of 50 years of diplomatic relations. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay are underway, the two ministers will deepen relations in matters of defense, security and strategic cooperation.

Senior Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, Raveesh Kumar, in a series of tweet gave a slight glimpse of the two leaders discussing and taking forward the exemplary relations India and Bhutan share. He tweeted saying, “Exemplary relationship worth celebrating! PM @narendramodi welcomes Prime Minister of #Bhutan @tsheringtobgay to India during the Golden Jubilee Year of our relationship, which is based on shared perceptions, utmost trust, goodwill, and understanding.”

In their talks, PM Modi and Bhutan PM Tobgay are also expected to deliberate on the situation at the Doklam tri-junction, the site of the 73-day-long standoff between Indian and Chinese armies last year. In February, Tobgay had visited Guwahati to participate in an investors' summit on the sidelines of which he and Modi had held talks.

Troops of India and China were locked in a 73-day-long standoff in Doklam from June 16 last year after the Indian side stopped construction of a road at the disputed Doklam tri-junction by the Chinese army. Bhutan and China have a dispute over Doklam. The face-off ended on August 28. China and Bhutan are engaged in talks over the resolution of the dispute in the area.
India and Bhutan enjoy unique ties of friendship and cooperation, which are characterized by the utmost trust and mutual understanding. This year both countries are commemorating the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations.

The upcoming visit of Prime Minister Tobgay, during the Golden Jubilee year, will provide an opportunity to both the sides to hold discussions on issues of mutual interest, and advance the classic ties of friendship for the benefit of the two peoples.

As a country, India has a special and exemplary relationship of friendship and cooperation and the mutual respect that it shares with Bhutan. There are a number of institutional mechanisms between India and Bhutan in areas such as security, border management, trade, transit, economic, hydro-power, development cooperation and water resources.
