With Nagpur rolling under heavy rainfall, IMD issues advisory warning to other states as well

New Delhi, July 7: Cloudy sky, a cup of tea and a balcony; picture perfect scenario. Monsoon has swayed layers of rushing water leading to letting people spend quality time at home. Issuing an advisory, the Indian Meteorological Department has advised the people to stay indoors and take necessary precautions about the pertaining heavy rains.

 

Thunderstorm and heavy rainfall have led to many disaster and unnatural incidents. The IMD mentioned heavy to very heavy rains in the isolated places of Konkan and Southern regions. The monsoon trails would also hit Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and North East Regions like Sikkim and Meghalaya.

 

Heavy rains are expected in a few districts across both the states, according to the IMD. The IMD has issued warning of heavy rains in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari districts in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and across all districts of Rayalaseema. Further, it is estimated that owing to the air circulation activity in Marathwada, Maharashtra and adjoining areas, there were increased chances of heavy rainfall to occur in pockets of north Telangana.

 

It has also been noted that thunderstorms are ‘very likely’ to occur in these regions for the next two days. Apart from this Nagpur has succumbed to heavy rainfall amounting in a rather torrid day since the morning after heavy rains lashed the orange city. 

Some areas in Nagpur were waterlogged and Twitterati went on to post pictures of the city drenched in rain. As per Skymet weather report, extremely heavy rains were recorded over Nagpur city with 163 mm of rainfall recorded in last 3 hours and 249 mm in the last 24 hours. It was reported earlier that Vidarbha, Nagpur, Wardha and Chandrapur districts of Maharashtra may receive thundershowers.

 

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the Nagpur Municipal Corporation control room to take stock of the situation and relief measures in Nagpur city in view of heavy rains. CM Fadnavis also reviewed the measures taken in other parts of the district with senior officials.

 

Not only residents, even the Maharashtra Assembly was adjourned after the premises were flooded following incessant rains. The Assembly was adjourned for an hour pertaining to power supply issues.

The MeT department has estimated that scattered rains are expected over rest of Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. Moreover, isolated rain may occur over South Gujarat.
