Indian Army bust terrorist hideout in Poonch district of JK; Arms and ammunition including 11 IEDs recovered

Srinagar, July 7: Indian Army on Friday got a major breakthrough in its intensified efforts to eradicate terrorists and terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir after it busted an arms dump in a forest area in Poonch district and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 11 IEDs.

 

After getting a specific input, Indian Army launched a massive search operation in a forest area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition. Besides the Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), two AK assault rifles, three pistols, three rounds of rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and four Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the spot.

Also, a Pakistani currency valuing Rs 16,500, a compass, two map sheets, a bayonet, seven communication sets, a code sign and some other items were recovered during the search operation. The Indian Army spokesperson said, “The arms were smuggled from across the border and dumped in the forest area for subsequent use by terrorists.”

Earlier, in the day, the imam Mohd Ashraf Thoker of Hanifa Mosque in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir was shot at by terrorists. He has been admitted to a hospital with multiple bullet injuries. The gun attack on mosque cleric comes hours after the body of a Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Javid Ahmed Dar was found with injuries at Pariwan Kulgam. Police-constable Javid Ahmed Dar, a resident of Vehil village in Shopian, was kidnapped on Thursday from near a medical store.
