Allahabad HC issues notice to top Police and high officials in Lucknow University Violence case

Lucknow, July 7: The Allahabad High Court has issued a notice to the DG Police, Uttar Pradesh, Vice Chancellor Lucknow University and District Police Chief of Lucknow in connection with the violence in Lucknow University. Taking a suo motu cognizance, the Lucknow bench of the court has asked the officers to appear before it today.


 

A division bench of the court comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan has sought an explanation for the Wednesday's violence in the University. It has also summoned Registrar and Proctor of the University.

A DSP has been transferred and in charge of a local police outpost has been suspended for dereliction in the duty and failing to provide security at the campus. A delegation of the teachers led by Vice Chancellor SP Singh had complained to the DGP against both the police officers.

The police have registered an FIR in this matter and three people have been arrested so far. Additional Director General Police Lucknow zone has been asked to probe into the incidents at University campus.

The bench was hearing a case with regard to violence on Lucknow University campus during which a group of 25-30 expelled students owing allegiance to Samajwadi Party Chhatra Sabha and some outsiders attacked the teachers leaving at least a dozen injured on last Wednesday.
