Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani visits ‘Statue of Unity' site; reviews ongoing work

Kevadia, July 9: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday took the stock of state government’s ambitious project 'Statue of Unity'. The Chief Minister visited the construction site and reviewed the ongoing work. A brainchild of the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the 182-meter-tall statue of Sardar Patel is being erected near the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

On this occasion, the first look of the proposed statue of the Sardar Patel was unveiled by the Chief Minister. Speaking to the media after inspection, Rupani said that on 31 October, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil much anticipated ‘Statue of Unity' project.

During this inspection, officials briefed Rupani about the progress of ongoing work and presented a detailed report on various initiatives. According to state officials, with the contribution of 250 engineers, 80% of work has already been completed. The 182-meter huge statue is being constructed with 25,000 tonnes of iron and 90,000 tonnes of cement

Informing about the development, the Chief Minister took to Twitter and said, “Sardar Sarovar Dam will provide visitors a meaningful experience that both educates & entertains, by focusing on Sardar Patel's personage, life, and accomplishments.”

In 2013 admits much fanfare, Narendra Modi, the then Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial nominee had officially laid the foundation stone of the same.
