Security forces eliminated one terrorist in forest area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, July 9: Security forces on Sunday late night eliminated one terrorist after a fierce encounter that took place in the forest area of Kupwara's Handwara of Jammu and Kashmir. The body of slain terrorist along with arms and ammunition recovered from the encounter site.

 

Notably, the Indian Army personnel cordoned off the forest area of Handwara area of Kupwara district after noticing a suspected movement of a terrorist. After being asked to stop, terrorist fired upon the team of Indian Army which led into a heavy gunfight. Immediately a team of Indian Army retaliated heavily and eliminated one terrorist.

The identity of slain terrorist is yet to be revealed while the security forces have launched massive combing and search operation in the nearby areas. The encounter had begun amid a shutdown called by the separatists to mark the second death anniversary of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani who was killed along with his two associates by the security forces on this day in 2014 in Anantnag's district's Kokarnag area.

Meanwhile, the army has destroyed 11 IEDs planted by terrorists in Mendhar area. The explosive was defused with the help of bomb squad but the after the sound made it clear that Army has averted a major tragedy.

On the other side, two terrorists barged into the house of a resident in Hajin's Shahgund village in Bandipora district on Sunday and slit the throat of the women. The woman later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Srinagar.

On Friday last week, Indian Army busted an arms dump in a forest area in Poonch district and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 11 IEDs. Also, a Pakistani currency valuing Rs 16,500, a compass, two map sheets, a bayonet, seven communication sets, a code sign and some other items were recovered during the search operation.
