Elevating India-S Korea relations to a 'Special Strategic' level, Prez Moon Jae-in makes his maiden visit

New Delhi, July 9: Announcing big-ticket investment in the economic sphere, South Korean President Moon Jae-in arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on a four-day visit. Accompanied by First Lady Kim Jung-Sook on his maiden visit to the nation, Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh received the visiting dignitary at the airport.

 

The South Korean President is leading a delegation comprising senior members of his cabinet, officials as well as industry captains. During the visit, Moon will attend an India-Korea Business Forum on July 9.

 

After arriving the South Korean President met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj shared a commitment to values of democracy, open society & liberal international order. EAM Sushma Swaraj and South Korean President discussed ways to positively elevate the Special Strategic Partnership by expanding ties across several sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Moon will together visit the Gandhi Smriti. Thereafter, they will also visit a Samsung plant in Noida. On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached Noida in the afternoon and took stock of the preparations. He reviewed the security arrangement of the route from which the PM will be traveling to the venue. After reaching the venue at Sector-81, he held a meeting with the administration and police officials for about an hour.

In June last year, the South Korean giant announced a Rs 4,915 crore investment to expand the Noida plant and, after a year, the new facility by Samsung is ready to double production. The company is currently making 67 million smartphones in India and with the new plant being functional; it is expected to manufacture nearly 120 million mobile phones.

Not just mobiles, the expansion of the giant manufacturing facility will double Samsung's production capacity of consumer electronics like refrigerators and flat-panel televisions, further consolidating the company's leadership in these segments.

Moon will be accorded with a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on July 10. Prime Minister Modi will then hold official talks with the South Korean President in Hyderabad House, which will be followed by lunch.

The two leaders will also address the India-South Korea CEOs Roundtable. Moon will meet President Ram Nath Kovind who will also host a banquet for the visiting dignitary and his delegation at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
