Mumbai, August 1: We have seen laboratories giving birth to animals etc but now it can create meat as well without killing the animals. That means taste remains the same but without any animal in that. Scientists and businesses working full steam to produce lab-created meat claim it will be healthier than conventional meat and more environmentally friendly.

The Dutch and the Americans claim that within a few years lab-produced meats will start appearing in supermarkets and restaurants. And these are not the only teams working on cultured meat (as they prefer to call it).

Cultured meat is produced using many of the same tissue engineering techniques traditionally used in regenerative medicine. The concept of cultured meat was popularized by Jason Matheny in the early 2000s after co-authoring a seminal paper on cultured meat production and creating New Harvest, the world’s first non-profit organization dedicated to supporting in vitro meat research.

On August 5th, 2013, the world's first lab-grown burger was cooked and eaten at a news conference in London. Scientists from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, led by Professor Mark Post, had taken stem cells from a cow and grown them into strips of muscle which they then combined to make a burger.

Lab-grown meat might be better for us. Because cultured meats would be produced in sterile environments, they would be free of such dangerous bacteria. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that pathogens in conventional meat are the most common sources of fatal food-related infections.
