UP gets a major defence swing! Raksha Mantri inaugurates Defence Industrial Corridor opening doors of employment

Lucknow, August 11: Defence comprises of an important sector in development and security of the country. In order to enhance defence industries in the country and give a major thrust to ‘Make in India’ initiative, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman appealed the defence industries to increase their export capacity as there is demand for quality defence products all over the world.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today inaugurated the first phase of UP Defence Corridor in Aligarh. The Raksha Mantri promised to provide every possible support to the state in developing the defence industry. She said that the government will purchase their products for ten years if they produce good quality defence products.

 

Nirmala Sitaraman said Vice chiefs of all the 3 forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) are present on the occasion so that they decide on the procurement part and interact with the investors. She said she would appeal to the investors to look beyond the armed forces in terms of potential markets.

On this occasion, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath said that this Defence Corridor will increase job opportunities in the state. He said that Aligarh is famous for hardware manufacturing and Upcoming Bundelkand expressway connecting Agra - Jhansi - Chitrakoot will play a vital role in UP defence corridor.

 

The Defence Minister said that her department is taking the call of Prime Minister's Sabka saath sabka vikaas along with the defence capabilities plan and Aligarh’s Innovative Manufacturing will set an example for finding innovative ways to defence solutions. Chief Minister of state Yogi Adityanath said that atmosphere of security for investment has come now in the state which is the best place for investment in country.

 

The first phase of proposed corridor started within 6 months after it was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Investor’s summit in February this Year.

Six nodal points have been identified for the corridor. They are Agra, Aligarh, Lucknow, Kanpur, Chitrakoot and Jhansi. Stakeholder interactions have already been held in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra and Jhansi.
