CBI probe to probe Thoothukudi Police firing case

Chennai, Aug 14: The Madras High Court today asked Tamil Nadu state government to hand over the investigation of Thoothukudi Police firing case.

In Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi 13 people lost their lives during a protest against the against the construction of a copper plant a venture of Vedanta group. With this ruling, all the cases pertaining to violence and police firing will be probed by CBI.

On the other hand, a bench of Madras High Court which includes Justice CT Selvam and Basheer Ahamed revoked the detention of the six activists of Makkal Adhikaram who were booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

On May 22, people of the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu had staged a protest against Vedanta group’s Sterlite copper plant.
