Spreading patriotic waves, Special Metro Trains will don images of freedom fighters from Independence Day

New Delhi, August 14: Serving a gift to the people of India on the occasion of Independence Day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to put in action a specially decorated Metro Train on the Yellow Line for the next two months spreading the message of patriotism. The six-coach train has been donned with pictures of freedom fighters and other national icons that played a significant role in India's Freedom Struggle.

 

"This six-coach special train fully wrapped with photographs of our freedom fighters, martyrs and soldiers such as Mahatma Gandhi, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr BR Ambedkar. The Metro train also has a lot of inspiring messages to spread the idea of nationalism and unity among metro commuters.

Other great Indian personalities such as Lata Mangeshkar, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, cricket hero Kapil Dev, among others will run on the Samaypur Badli-HUDA City Centre (Yellow Line) for the next two months." an official of the DMRC said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, General (Retd) VK Singh paid a tribute to freedom fighters and martyrs of the nation on Monday by writing a special message on the train. He wrote Happy Independence Day in Hindi at the Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station, and greeted people on the occasion of Independence Day. "The Metro train is carrying a lot of inspiring messages to spread the idea of nationalism and unity among metro commuters," the official said.

The DMRC also announced that barring entry and exit to few stations from special gates, Metro services will run as usual across the entire Delhi Metro Network on Independence Day. The entry and exit at four stations of Line-6 (Kashmere Gate to Escorts Mujesar) i.e, Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate and ITO will be permitted from select entry and exit gates during the ceremony and some gates will remain closed at these stations owing to security considerations during this period.

To facilitate people at Lal Quila station on Independence Day, additional ticket counters will be opened at Lal Quila and Jama Masjid Metro stations along with deployment of additional staff for guiding the additional rush after ceremony.

All Metro stations will remain open on Independence Day but parking will be closed from 6 am on Tuesday till 2 pm on Wednesday.
