Swaying its fresh shower, MeT asserts monsoon to become more active this week

New Delhi, August 14: Unusual weather like heavy rains in some southern parts of nation and less rain in northern parts has made uneven climate graph but there is good news for those waiting for rains that monsoon is expected to become more active across the country this week.

 

Additional Director General, MeT Department Mritunjay Mohapatra said that there is a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal which will make the Monsoon more active and is likely to bring good showers over central India, reducing overall rain deficiency.

He said rainfall activity over Kerala, Karnataka and the Ghats of Tamil Nadu is likely to increase in intensity again during the next 48 hours, in addition to a fresh surge of monsoon westerlies.
Mohapatra also said, a monsoon trough over the western Himalayas was bringing rains over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, parts of Uttar Pradesh and other states.

On the other side, currently the situation in Kerala is just becoming bad to worse as the state is facing one of the worst floods in decades. The State and Central government are looking to expedite relief and rescue work in collaboration with different agencies. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday after meeting flood victims in Kerala and taking an aerial overview of the situation in the state announced an additional Rs 100 crore flood relief
