Madhya Pradesh: 11 feared drowned, 20 trapped in flashfloods at Shivpuri waterfall

Bhopal, August 16: A very sad incident occurred at one of the popular picnic spots of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, flash floods occurred at Sultangarh Water Falls in Shivpuri district where 39 people have been rescued by a joint team of BSF, SDRF, Police, Home Guards and District administration who were stuck in rapids.


 

However, it is feared that 5 to 10 persons have been swept away in the drift of water. Shivpuri SP said that the search operation has already started to trace them.

Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Mines Narendra Singh Tomar supervised the 10-hour long rescue operations.

Sultangarh waterfall is about an hour’s drive from Gwalior and Shivpuri on the Agra-Mumbai highway. It’s a popular picnic spot and hundreds had gathered there on Independence Day.

 

Home Minister Rajnath Singh in his tweet said, “Spoke to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri @ChouhanShivraj regarding the situation in Shivpuri district. NDRF has already been pressed into service to save those who are stranded. The efforts are on to save everyone. I have assured him of all possible assistance from the Centre.”

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked the Home Minister Rajnath Singh and defence minister Nirmala Sitaraman for their timely support to help in the rescue operations. Chief Minister himself monitored the situation on a minute to minute basis.
