New Delhi, August 17: With the sad demise of India’s former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee spreading across boundaries pay their warm condolence to the people’s Prime Minister. Numerous leaders across the world have paid their warm condolence to the former Prime Minister; United States, Russia, Japan and many other countries recalled the gem that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was!

Grieving with the country for its great loss, in an unparalleled gesture, the Government of Mauritius has decided that both Indian and Mauritian flag, Belgium and the Union Flag in United Kingdom will fly half-mast on government buildings on 17 August as a mark of respect following the sad demise of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.


United Kingdom also has decided that the Union Flag flies half-mast at the British High Commission in New Delhi as mark of respect to Atal Bihari Vajpayee. UK paying tribute to the unforgettable hero stands with people of India.

The love and adoration asserted on Atal Bihari Vajpayee is seen by all across the world. A man who went beyond allies to work for the betterment of India is loved and adored by one and all not only in India but also internationally. Owing to the close relations shared by Mauritius and India; Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, in a letter to PM Narendra Modi conveyed his deep condolence.

In the letter, the Mauritian Prime Minister wrote, “Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee shaped the destiny of India through his bold leadership and empathy towards the common man. As India shines today on the path of progress, it is because of the strong and able stewardship of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His leadership was characterized by determination, perseverance, fairness, and equity.

He has been an inspiration to many politicians not just in India but also across the world. Mauritius was honored to receive him in the year 2000 as their Chief Guest for National Day Celebration and whenever the former Prime Minister visited Mauritius.

Under his leadership, the relations between India and Mauritius lifted to great heights. The first Cybercity in Mauritius, Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and discussion for the establishment of comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement between the two countries were all initiated during his tenure.”

The Prime Minister of Mauritius also added that with the country hosting the 11th World Hindi Conference, the country recalls in awe the mastery of Hindi by the former Prime Minister in his poetry. Lastly, the Prime Minister added that Mauritius mourns with India over the loss of a man who stood tall not just for India but also for Mauritius."
