Thiruvananthapuram, August 2: As Kerala is known for its beauty and serene elegance; the people residing in the state compel to have a calm and happy nature. With the essence of connectivity, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC ) rolled out ‘Chill Bus’ services from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod.

The service is based on using the 219 fleet of low-floor air-conditioned buses of the Kerala Urban Transport Corporation (KURTC) from August 1. Kerala Transport minister AK Saseendran launched the Chill Bus on Wednesday and said that around 180 buses under Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) are going to be a part of this service.

"People of this county are well-wishers of KSRTC because they love KSRTC. We are working on providing facilities that can benefit the public," the minister said at the launch. Being launched under the concept ‘Connect Kerala,’ the new bus services are aimed at offering hassle-free travel to commuters and strengthening the public transport system.

This premium bus service will link all main regions east-west, south-north as well as the main tourist places. The bus service will be available through the main central road, national highways and state highways.

The daytime services will commence at 5 a.m. and will go on till 10 p.m. The night services will operate every two hours from 10 p.m. onwards on the Thiruvananthapuram-Alappuzha-Ernakulam and Ernakulam-Kozhikode sectors and from 10.30 p.m. onwards in the Thiruvananthapuram.

The KSRTC CMD said online reservation would be available from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod on chain connectivity basis for these new bus services. The buses will be parked close to the separate bus bays earmarked for the Fly Bus that operates to airports.

The high patronage despite rainy weather has been attributed to their regularity and fares that are lesser than that of AC coaches in trains. The late running of trains in Kerala due to delay in replacing tracks too has acted to the advantage of the buses.
