New Delhi, August 2: “It is the responsibility of the parliamentarians to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament so that every parliamentarian gets a chance to speak and thereby become part of history” affirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the Outstanding Parliamentarian Awards organized by the Indian Parliamentary Group in New Delhi.

 

Addressing the award function, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Members of the Parliament play an important role as they represent the voice of the 125 crore people of the country. Congratulating the award winners, the Prime Minister said that their contributions to Parliament and the country would always be remembered. He added that it is an honor to work with and learn from these outstanding parliamentarians. Parliament gives a forum to debate and criticise the government. 

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan were also present on the occasion. The event held at the central hall of Parliament was to confer the best Parliamentarian awards for the years 2013 to 2017.

 

It is the prime responsibilities of the parliamentarians that they ensure smooth functioning of the Parliament so that every parliamentarian gets a chance to speak and thereby become part of history. The Prime Minister further said that disruptions in Parliament usually affect common-man and the parliamentarians who represent them the most. He added that the disruptions are a loss to the nation than to the government.

 

The ongoing session of the Parliament has seen many twists and turns but along with that many positive decisions are taken by the government ensuring smooth functioning of the country and also decisions which are on a positive side towards the upliftment of the people.

 

Earlier, the President conferred the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award to Najma Heptulla for 2013, Hukumdev Narayan Yadav for 2014, Ghulam Nabi Azad for 2015, Dinesh Trivedi for 2016 and Bhartruhari Mahtab for 2017.
