Senior Congress leader Ahmad Patel to take charge of AICC treasurer; Anand Sharma to head foreign affairs department

New Delhi, Aug 22: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ahmad Patel will be the new treasurer of Congress party. In an official communication, Congress National President Rahul Gandhi made an announced about the new responsibility of Patel. Patel will replace veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora. Ahmad Patel, who assisted former Congress President Sonai Gandhi had earlier served as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) treasurer from 1996 to 2000.

In order to improve the overseas network of Congress, Former Union minister Anand Sharma will look after party's foreign affairs department. According to media reports, in order to counter the extensive NRI outreach programme of BJP under the platform of Overseas Friends of BJP, Rahul Gandhi entrusted Anand Sharma with the responsibility of foreign affairs department. Earlier senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Karan Singh was heading the department.

Former Lok Sabha Chairman Meira Kumar has been nominated as Permanent Invitee to the Congress Working Committee. In order to regain the lost turf of North- East, senior Congress leader Luzinho Falerio will oversee the political affairs of North- Eastern states. He will replace CP Joshi.
