New Delhi, August 22: Giving new wings to education with digital touch, the Department of Human Resource Development has enabled availability of IIT-PAL lectures in handheld devices via the `SWAYAM` portal. The lectures will now be available on the 'Swayam' platform and can be accessed anytime.

The move was taken with the aim to reduce student’s dependency on coaching classes as informed by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar. PAL (Professor Assisted Learning) lectures, which are prepared by the IITs, aim to help students crack the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and are telecast on Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry's Swayam Prabha Channels.

Javadekar said after the 52nd Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Council meeting said, "IIT-PAL which has more than 600 lectures on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths will be made available on Swayam platform free of cost. This will act like a discussion forum so that students' dependence on coaching classes can be reduced".

Javadekar further said that IITs would now mentor at least five engineering colleges located in its vicinity in their bid to improve the quality and standard of engineering education in the country. A committee, comprising Directors of IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Tirupati, has also been constituted to recommend standards and norms for construction of campuses and infrastructure projects in IITs.

The meeting, which took place at IIT-Delhi, also paid homage to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away recently at the age of 93 following a prolonged illness.
