Srinagar, August 22: Few unidentified terrorists in the wee hours of Wednesday barged into the house of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Shabir Ahmed Bhat and shot him dead in Rakh Litter area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Shabir Ahmed Bhat, who was a president of the BJP of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama region, was inside his house when the heavily armed terrorists entered his house and sprayed bullets at him. He died on the spot.

The Jammu and Kashmir police said that bullet-riddled body of BJP's Pulwama District President was found this morning. Shabir was held hostage at his own residence before getting killed. The police have registered a case and launched an operation to identify the terrorists behind the brazen attack.

BJP President Amit Shah in a tweet said, “Anguished to learn about the killing of BJP karyakarta, Shabir Ahmad Bhat by terrorists in Pulwama (J&K). This act of cowardice is highly condemnable. Extremists cannot stop the youth of Kashmir from choosing a better future for themselves. This cycle of violence won't last long.”

“The sacrifice of our @BJP4JnK karyakartas will not go in vain. Entire BJP stands firmly with Shabir Ahmad Bhat's family in this hour of grief. My deepest condolences. May god give his family the strength to bear this tragic loss,” he said in another tweet.

The incident comes a day after Indian troopers foiled the infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir and eliminated one unidentified Pakistani terrorist. Earlier, the centre has said that 110 terrorists were killed in the first seven months of this year.

Interestingly, the Indian security forces have led a massive war against terrorism and terrorists in the inner parts of Jammu-Kashmir and forward areas. Therefore, Anti-Terrorism operation is continued with such a speed that more than 206 terrorists were eliminated by Indian troops last year.
