London, August 22: United Kingdom has urged the US and European countries to do more to call out Kremlin's malign behavior and keep Russian President Vladimir Putin in check by implementing tough sanction against it.

Britain's new Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the established rules of international conduct are repeatedly being flouted by major countries like Russia. London has blamed Moscow for the March poisoning in southwestern England of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

Hunt said, "such aggressive and malign behavior undermines the international order that keeps one safe."

The foreign Secretary said, while engagement with Moscow remains vital, Russia's foreign policy under Putin has made the world a more dangerous place. Hunt, who is in the US, is expected to meet US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo today.

On the other side, EU officials said Britain had not yet proposed any new sanctions on Russia to the other 27 EU member states.

Britain, the EU, and the United States blame Russia for a nerve agent attack against a Russian double agent in Salisbury earlier this year. The Kremlin denies involvement.

Citing the Salisbury incident, Washington has imposed sanctions against Moscow covering national-security related goods. It has promised more hard-hitting measures unless Russia gives “reliable assurances” it will no longer use chemical weapons.
