AIADMK’s O Panneerselvam demands Bharat Ratna for Jayalalithaa

Chennai, Aug 24: In an emotional appeal, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has urged the central government to conferrer Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award to late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Recounting Jayalalithaa’s tenure, Panneerselvam stated that it was then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister who had pushed the idea of 69% reservation to the weaker section. His reaction came in the backdrop of ruling parties executive meeting.

Terming J Jayalalithaa a champion for social justice, the former Chief Minister mentioned that the legendary Tamil actor turned politician deserves the Bharat Ratna. The Dravidian party also demands Bharat Ratna for stalwarts like Periyar and CN Annadurai.

Meanwhile, days after the demise of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, party Working President and son of Karunanidhi M K Stalin has decided to convene a special meeting regarding the proposed memorial of DMK Chief.

According to media reports, DMK is likely to consult all political parties where the principal opposition party is likely to invite BJP National President Amit Shah for the upcoming crucial engagement.
