Heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh; gates of different dams opened, several districts on alert

Bhopal, August 24: In Madhya Pradesh, as a result of heavy rainfall during the last 72 hours, gates of different dams of the state have been opened. Many villages in the state have lost road connectivity as rivers are flowing over danger mark. Due to this heavy rainfall till now 12 lives have been claimed.


 

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy rain in 14 districts in the state over the next 24 hours. The maximum amount of rainfall has been recorded in Bhopal and the western parts of Madhya Pradesh where over seven inches of rainfall was recorded in a period of 48 hours.

Due to nonstop rainfall, seven gates of the Gadgil Sagar Dam were opened in Mandsaur district on Thursday while fourteen gates of the Dam in Retam, 15 gates of Rajghat dam in chanderi and two gates of Mohanpura dam in Rajgarh were also opened. Road connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh near Chanderi has also been disturbed.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhopal, has released a warning for 14 districts of Madhya Pradesh including Gwalior, Shivpuri, Ratlam, Khandwa, and Burhanpur.
