India bags 36 medals including 7 gold in #AsianGames2018; more to come

Jakarta, August 27: India on Sunday i.e on Day 8 of the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang bagged five silver and two bronze medals to increase the medals tally to 36 including 7 gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze.

 

Two silver medals came in the equestrian event, two bronze came in the debut sport of bridge. Muhammed Anas, Hima Das and Dutee Chand have won silver medals in the track events. Govindan Lakshmanan also won a bronze in 10,000m but it was withdrawn later as he was disqualified due to lane infringement.

On the other side, Indian riders have won the Silver medal in equestrian event which is a team event that comprised of four riders consisting of three personnel from Indian Army. Major Ashish Malik, Jitender Singh, Rakesh Kumar and Fouaad Mirza were the part of winning team.


India's men's and mixed teams win bronze medals in a bridge event. Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu won their respective singles quarter-finals match to assure medals for India. In archery, men and women's compound teams qualified for finals. India defeated Republic of Korea 5-3 in men's hockey Pool A match. India stays unbeaten with four wins and top group with 12 points.

Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra is among the number of Indian athletes who will aim to win Gold on Day 9 of the events i.e on Monday. Neeraj, who was India's flag-bearer in the opening ceremony, will be in action in the Men's Javelin Throw Final along with Shivpal Singh.

Neena Varakil and James Nayana in Women's Long Jump, and Chethan Balasubramanya in Men's High Jump will also vie for the coveted yellow metal. Anu Raghavan and Jauna Murmu will figure in the Women's 400 metres Hurdles Final, with Dharun Ayyasamy and Santhosh Kumar featuring in the Men's section. Sudha Singh, Chinta and Shankar Lal Swami will aim to make the country proud in 3,000 metres Steeplechase Finals.

In Badminton, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will play their semi-final matches. In Boxing, four Indian pugilists, including Vikas Krishan and Amit Panghal, will play their pre-quarterfinal bouts today.

In Women's Hockey, India will take on Thailand in their fourth and final group match. The Indian eves, as well as the Men's team, are already through to the semi-finals.
