New Delhi, August 29: The Delhi government has approved the proposal to increase the cash incentive for a gold medal winner in Olympics and Paralympics from the national Capital from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crore. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

 

Similarly, silver and bronze medal winners will now get Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore, respectively.

"Good news for sportspersons from Delhi Cabinet approves Rs 3 crore cash incentive for Olympic gold medallists; Rs 2 crore for silver medallists; Rs 1 crore for bronze (sic)," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted on Tuesday.

"Similarly, Asiad gold medallists will now get Rs 1 crore from Delhi government; Rs 75 lakh for silver and Rs 50 lakh for bronze," he said. The player should be a resident of Delhi for the past three years.

Incidentally, the revised amount of cash incentive in all categories will be applicable from the beginning of the current financial year, this means -the winner in tournaments held after April 1 2018 will get the declared incentive.

Encouraging the sportsmanship among Delhi youth, Cabinet stamped DoE's proposal to escalate incentive amounts for three stage winner - Gold, Silver and Bronze. This further means that, gold winners will now get Rs 3crore against existing amount Rs 1crore, for Silver medal winners, the new incentive amount will be Rs 2 crore against existing Rs 50 lacs earlier and for Bronze winners, the new incentive amount will be Rs 1 crore.

The eligibility criteria for the player is - he/she should be bonafide resident of Delhi for the last three years. A player will be provided the incentive only once for his/her achievements, i.e. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in a year.
