Security forces get major success in JK; eliminates top Hizbul commander Altaf Kachru along with his close aide

Srinagar, August 29: Security forces on Wednesday early morning eliminated two terrorists belonged to Hizbul terror outfit after a fierce encounter that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. The operation has been called off after the body of slain terrorists along with arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot. 

Security forces including personnel of Indian Army, police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation following the specific input of presence of 2 terrorists in Khanabal area of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.

The terrorists hiding in a house opened fire on the security forces, triggering a gunfight and in retaliation security troopers successfully eliminated two ultras. One of the two terrorists killed is identified as Altaf Kachru, who was one of the oldest Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists operating in the Kashmir. However, the identity of another is ascertained.

During the operation, authorities had suspended the Internet service in the area soon after the encounter began. Train service was also suspended on the Srinagar-Banihal route following the gunfight.

Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet said, “#Anantnag encounter update: Two terrorists killed. Arms and ammunition recovered. Search continues. Identity is being established.”


While Jammu and Kashmir’s DGP SP Vaid lauded the efforts of security forces in a tweet and said, “Anantnag encounter completed, 2 bodies of terrorists along with 2 weapons recovered from the site. A clean operation with precision.”


This comes merely two days after Indian Army busted a terrorist hideout and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition including one GPS, one AK-magazine, wireless set, a pouch and some clothes during the search operation in forest area in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.

The recoveries included one 9mm Pistol, three magazines of a pistol, four rounds of 9mm pistol, four carrying bags, one AK-56 rifle (with sling), three magazines of AK-56 rifle with ammunition, one unidentified weapon, one revolver, 14 hand grenades and one AK-47 bayonet and other warlike stores. Earlier, the centre has said that 110 terrorists were killed in the first seven months of this year.
