Expressing confidence in building a peaceful Bay of Bengal region, PM Modi arrives in Kathmandu for BIMSTEC Summit

Kathmandu, August 30: Arriving in Kathmandu to attend the fourth BIMSTEC Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed confidence that the Summit will map the course for building a peaceful and prosperous Bay of Bengal Region and will further consolidate the progress made so far under the BIMSTEC.

PM Modi in his departure note said during the summit, he will have interactions with all the leaders of the BIMSTEC to further enrich the regional cooperation, enhance the trade ties and advance the collective efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous Bay of Bengal region.

 

The Prime Minister further stated that India’s participation in the Summit symbolizes India's highest priority in its neighborhood and the strong commitment to continue deepening the relationship with the extended neighborhood in South-East Asia.

 

The Summit focuses on the theme ‘Towards a Peaceful, Prosperous and Sustainable Bay of Bengal Region.’ On the sidelines of the Summit, the PM will hold talks with several world leaders. PM Modi will meet PM KP Sharma Oli and review India-Nepal bilateral relations. PM Modi and PM Oli will also inaugurate the Nepal-Bharat Maitri Dharamshala at the Pashupatinath Temple Complex.

As the Summit theme suggests “Towards a Peaceful, Prosperous and Sustainable Bay of Bengal Region”, the meeting will enable the participating nations to shape a collective response to the common aspirations and challenges. PM Modi said, on the margins of the BIMSTEC Summit, he will have the opportunity to interact with the leaders of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
