2+2 dialogue between India, US to have a set of actual concrete outcomes in political and defence sector

Washington, August 31: The upcoming 2+2 dialogue (two plus two dialogue) between India and the United States in New Delhi is an opportunity to advance the Indo-US relationship in a significant way and are also going to have a set of actual concrete outcomes. This was said by a Pentagon official on Thursday.

 

US Assistant Secretary of Defence for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, Randall Schriver in a press briefing said that the 2+2 dialogue India and United States in New Delhi next week is an opportunity to advance the Indo-US relationship in a significant way.

He further said in that the leaders during the dialogue will talk about regional issues and strategic issues, but they are also going to have a set of actual concrete outcomes. Describing this as a historic meeting, Randall Schriver said the leaders will talks about Afghanistan or shared interest there and driving that to a political settlement. In the defence sector, he said the two countries are working on a set of enabling agreements.

The statement from Pentagon official comes a week before much-awaited 2+2 dialogue (two plus two dialogue) is to take place. Importantly, New Delhi is all set to host the much-awaited 2+2 dialogue (two plus two dialogue) between India and the United States (US) on September 6 this year to strengthen bilateral ties.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will host the US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and US Secretary of Defence James Mattis in New Delhi. The 2+2 meeting will cover a broad range of bilateral, regional and global issues of shared interest, with a view to strengthening strategic and security ties between the two countries.

However, the much awaited 2+2 dialogue is seen as a vehicle to elevate the strategic relationship between the two countries.
