‘Raazi’ director Meghna Gulzar to direct series on top Cop Rakesh Maria

Mumbai, Aug 6: Basking in the success of Alia Bhatt starrer spy-thriller ‘Raazi’, director Meghna Gulzar has decided to direct an original series on the life of former Mumbai CP Rakesh Maria. The young storyteller took to Twitter and made an official announcement about the same.

The project will be bankrolled by Reliance Entertainment's Phantom Films. Phantom Films is the production house behind Sacred Games, the first Netflix Original series to be made from India. According to an official statement, the story will be based on Maria’s experiences and key operations helmed by the top cop.

The 1981 batch IPS officer, Rakesh Maria was involved in crucial investigations such as 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He was instrumental in decoding sensitive cases like 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar twin blasts.

The officer was mired into the controversy over his handling of 2015 Sheena Bora murder case. Cop character in movies like Black Friday, 26/11, A Wednesday was reportedly inspired by Rakesh Maria.
