Beijing, August 6: Top Indian shuttler and Rio Olympics medallist shuttler PV Sindhu on Sunday lost to Carolina Marin in the finals of the World Championships' women's singles which was held at Nanjing city of China and had to settle for silver.

Notably, Sindhu settled for silver following a 19-21, 10-21 loss to Carolina Marin of Spain in the finals that lasted only for 45 minutes. Marin began aggressively and tried to unsettle Sindhu with her fast game. But the continuation of errors from her with quite a few shots going long led Sindhu to take lead by 11-8 at the first changeover.

Soon, Sindhu was 15-11 ahead. But Marin did not let the deficit come in the way of her aggressive play. After a mini-comeback, she levelled the scores at 15-15 and then again at 18-18. However, an angled smash took the Marin to game point, which she scored successfully and clinched the first set.

The second game saw an even more aggressive Marin take complete charge. Sindhu failed to find any rhythm and was no match to Spanish shuttler. As the game turned one-sided, Carolina easily won the set by 21-10 and bagged the gold medal.

Sindhu had lost an epic final to Japan's Nozomi Okuhara at Glasgow last year. In men's singles, Kento Momota of Japan won the title with an easy 21-13, 21-11 victory over local boy Shi Yuqi. With this victory, Kento Momota became the first Japanese man to win the Championships.
